Racing Incident Report

Despite being ridden along in the early stages, GRABBIT failed to muster speed, then at the 1900 Metres was checked when crowded for room between CHEERFUL HEART and ELEPHANT DANCE which was carried out by WONG'S FAVOURITE. Also despite being ridden along in the early stages, BARRACUDA failed to muster speed. In the early stages, ABLE KNIGHT travelled wide and without cover. Making the first turn, PACIFIC ALLIANCE, which was inclined to hang out, was checked to avoid the heels of ALEXANDR THE GREAT (Apprentice K T Yeung) which shifted in slightly when not properly clear. In the circumstances, Apprentice Yeung was severely reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. After entering the Back Straight, ALEXANDR THE GREAT was shifted out and allowed to improve its position. Prior to straightening, RIGHT FRAAR was steadied and shifted to the inside of POSA which at this time shifted out when barely clear. On straightening, ELEPHANT DANCE was steadied and shifted to the inside of POSA to obtain clear running. The performances of BARRACUDA and SPECIFIC SORCEROR, which tailed out, were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, BARRACUDA and SPECIFIC SORCEROR will both have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Acting on an undertaking from the trainers of ALEXANDR THE GREAT and LUCKY LEGEND, which also finished at the rear, that both horses would not race again this season, no action was taken. CHEERFUL HEART was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of CHEERFUL HEART after the race did not show any significant findings. CENTENNIAL SMILE, ONE EYE JACK and RIGHT FRAAR were sent for sampling.

CHEERFUL HEART, which performed poorly, was examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison. He said at that time there were no significant findings. CHEERFUL HEART was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer D E Ferraris yesterday morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in the right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, CHEERFUL HEART will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
