When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of NOBLE FLIER, W C Marwing stated that as he had been instructed to have the horse in a more forward position today if possible from barrier 2, he gave it a good warm up on the way to the Start and behind the barriers. He said however that despite being vigorously ridden along for a considerable distance in the early stages, NOBLE FLIER did not show any early speed and had to be continuously ridden along the Back Straight to maintain its position behind midfield. He added NOBLE FLIER was travelling poorly in the early and middle stages and for this reason he used the whip on the horse approaching the 700 Metres in an endeavour to have it respond to his riding and travel better. He said despite this NOBLE FLIER continued to be reluctant to stretch out and rounding the Home Turn got its head on the side and lay out when already giving ground. He said he continued to push the horse out in the Straight, however, NOBLE FLIER did not respond to his riding and was very disappointing in its failure to travel well at any stage of the race. A veterinary inspection of NOBLE FLIER immediately following the race revealed the horse to be lame in its right hind leg. Rounding the Home Turn, GRACEFUL KINGDOM got its head on the side, lay in and bumped T-BOLT which became unbalanced.
At the entrance to the Straight, DINING STAR and GRACEFUL KINGDOM raced tight.
K C Leung (FAY DEEP) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the 400 Metres he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of T-BOLT (R Fourie), causing that horse to be taken out across the rightful running of GRACEFUL KINGDOM which as a result struck the heels of T-BOLT, blundered and almost fell. K C Leung was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday, 24 June 2013 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Sunday 16 June 2013. In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into consideration that GRACEFUL KINGDOM was racing with its head on the side and hanging in and that after initially being directed out by FAY DEEP, T-BOLT shifted out away from that horse slightly which was a contributing factor to this incident. R Fourie was advised that whilst the Stewards were satisfied that his mount had been directed out by FAY DEEP, nonetheless he must take all available measures to prevent his mount from shifting further ground. After this incident, GRACEFUL KINGDOM was eased down.
When questioned, Apprentice K C Ng stated that he had been asked to obtain cover on WELL DONE and that this was stressed to him on a number of occasions when being given the instructions. Trainer A T Millard stated that in a number of its races this season, WELL DONE had weakened after leading. He said as he expected that the tempo of today’s race would be good, he felt that too much use would have to be made of WELL DONE to cross runners to its inside in order to take up a forward position. He said therefore he asked Apprentice Ng to ride WELL DONE with cover but in a forward position if possible.
After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that HAPPY HOMING had lost its right hind plate.
A veterinary inspection of GRACEFUL KINGDOM immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of FANTASY AND GOLD, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, FANTASY AND GOLD will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Over the concluding stages, OXFORD CHARLEY was held up for clear running behind I SMELL MONEY and inside the heels of APPROVE.
Also over the concluding stages, HECO RIDER hung in badly despite the efforts of its rider. Because of this, HECO RIDER was not able to be properly ridden out right to the finish of the race.
Throughout the race, GOLDEN SCALPEL travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SICHUAN EXEC, T H So stated that after obtaining cover behind APPROVE, SICHUAN EXEC commenced to over-race badly approaching the 1000 Metres. He said SICHUAN EXEC continued to travel too keenly and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of APPROVE until passing the 500 Metres. He added whilst SICHUAN EXEC was disappointing, he attributed today’s performance to the manner in which the horse over-raced in the middle stages. A veterinary inspection of SICHUAN EXEC including an endoscopic examination immediately following the race found that horse to have a continuous displacement of the soft palate.
APPROVE, KING’S PACT and KING’S FOLKS were sent for sampling.
Race:9 (663) CARING HONG KONG HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1400 m
FINN MACCOOL, first Standby Declared Starter, was withdrawn on 30.5.13 by order of the Stewards (retired).

FOREVER ELATION was withdrawn from this race by order of the Stewards prior to Race 8 after the Veterinary Surgeon reported the horse to be lame in the right hind leg. Before being allowed to race again, FOREVER ELATION will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
On entering the track, LOMBARDI momentarily became fractious, resulting in its rider, C Y Ho, being dislodged.
FABULOUS NOVEMBER, which was fractious in the barriers and was leaning on the inside of its stall, began awkwardly and shortly after the start was steadied away from the heels of HYPERSONIC which was taken out by LOMBARDI.
From a wide barrier, OWNERS’ PRIDE was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.
For some distance passing the 1000 Metres, RACING REWARD travelled keenly and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of PRINCIPAL.
In the early part of the Straight, HELENE FUN STAR was awkwardly placed close to the heels of GENUINE LEADER.
After the 300 Metres, after initially being brushed by HYPERSONIC (B Prebble) which got its head on the side and hung in, FABULOUS NOVEMBER shifted in of its own accord away from HYPERSONIC towards the heels of HELENE FUN STAR. Then approaching the 200 Metres, FABULOUS NOVEMBER was steadied away from the heels of HYPERSONIC which continued to shift in under pressure. B Prebble was advised to ensure that he makes every endeavour to prevent his mount from shifting ground in similar circumstances.
For the majority of the race, GENUINE LEADER travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned, C K Tong stated that he had been instructed to be positive on CARRY THE ZEAL from the wide barrier to obtain a position with cover behind the leaders if possible. He said in accordance with his instructions, he allowed CARRY THE ZEAL to obtain a forward position in the early stages and after the 1200 Metres steadied the horse with a view to possibly obtaining a position behind LOMBARDI with cover in advance of HELENE FUN STAR. He said however that CARRY THE ZEAL commenced to over-race and he was not able to shift the horse in behind LOMBARDI. He said CARRY THE ZEAL continued to over-race, therefore he allowed the horse to obtain the lead, however, once reaching the front the horse then proved very difficult to settle and despite repeated attempts to have it come back underneath him, CARRY THE ZEAL continued to prove very difficult to settle and consequently ran at a quicker tempo in the lead. He added it had not been intended to be ridden in this manner, but the horse, when wearing blinkers, would not respond to his efforts to steady the tempo. Trainer D J Hall stated that in applying the blinkers to CARRY THE ZEAL at its most recent start, it had been hoped that the horse, which had been racing disappointingly this season, would be able to obtain a more forward position in that race. He said however that CARRY THE ZEAL did not show any speed in that race and for this reason he stepped the horse up in distance to 1400 Metres today in the hope that it would be able to race more prominently. He said he had hoped that CARRY THE ZEAL would be able to obtain a position with cover behind the leaders, however, he advised C K Tong that a position outside the lead would be acceptable if he was not able to obtain cover. He added CARRY THE ZEAL, which in its early racing career was inclined to prove difficult to settle, today raced in a similar manner and because of this he would drop it back in distance and return to the All Weather surface where he believes that the horse, at this time of the season, is more effective.
FABULOUS NOVEMBER, PRINCIPAL and HELENE FUN STAR were sent for sampling.
<3/6/2013 Additional Veterinary Report>The Clinical Veterinary Surgeon reported that OWNERS’ PRIDE had a swelling to the outside of its left front suspensory on the morning after racing. Before being allowed to race again, OWNERS’ PRIDE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Race:10 (664) FRESH HONG KONG HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 2 1600 m

RAINBOW CHIC was slow to begin.

Near the 75 Metres, HAPPY ERA was momentarily steadied and shifted to the inside of RAINBOW CHIC which got its head on the side and shifted out away from FAMILISTS.
When questioned, Y T Cheng stated that he had been instructed to ride WINNING LEADER in about 4th or 5th position with cover if possible from barrier 10. He said after beginning well, he shifted his mount across initially to race outside GREEN EAGLE which was being ridden in a forward position. He said this left WINNING LEADER racing wide outside VICTORY MASTER. He said as it appeared as though there might be an opportunity to shift in behind VICTORY MASTER and obtain a position with cover after the 1300 Metres, he steadied his mount with a view to possibly obtaining this position. He said whilst this would have meant WINNING LEADER racing further back than had been intended, he would have been able to obtain cover. He said however that VICTORY MASTER was steadied by its rider and TRUMP, which was positioned behind WINNING LEADER, was able to improve its position to be racing behind VICTORY MASTER and inside WINNING LEADER. He said because of this WINNING LEADER was left racing wide and without cover. Y T Cheng was advised that his explanation would be reported, however, the frequency of horses ridden by him being reported to be racing wide and without cover this season had come under notice and he must ensure that, wherever possible, horses ridden by him are not obliged to cover unnecessary ground.
A veterinary inspection of VICTORY MASTER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
