Background:
Yuichi Shikato is a former jockey who started his riding career in 1984 and amassed total of 354 wins until retiring in 2007. He commenced training the following year, and he soon made an immediate impact by winning the 2008 Japan Cup with Screen Hero. He also trained 2021 JRA Horse of the Year, Efforia, who won the Satsuki Sho, Tenno Sho Autumn and Arima Kinen in 2021. Win Carnelian brought him another career highlight in 2025, winning the Sprinters Stakes as an outside chance after finishing a close-up second in the Al Quoz Sprint at Meydan in Dubai. He has trained over 400 winners in Japan.
