| Background: Born into a racing family as the son of former trainer Richard Dee, Michael Dee debuted in 2012 and has climbed the ranks since then after switching from his native New Zealand to Melbourne, Australia in 2015. Dee made a steady ascendance in Australia before a sizzling spell across 2022 and 2023 returned Group 1 victories in the Caulfield Cup, Victoria Derby, Blue Diamond Stakes, Coolmore Classic, The Goodwood and a second Australian Guineas win. Raised in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand, Dee’s first win came in 2013 at New Plymouth, while the first of his 11 Group 1 wins came aboard Foundry in the 2017 The Metropolitan at Randwick. Before basing in Australia, Dee spent time under the tutelage of trainers Guy Lowry and Grant Cullen, as well as Kevin Myers. Dee’s minimum riding weight is 113lb; he has ridden in excess of 700 winners. |
