Racing Incident Report

STRONGHEART jumped awkwardly with its head up. On jumping, Apprentice C H Tse (ALL THE GLORY) momentarily lost the use of his off side stirrup iron. Apprentice C P Ting (WONDERFUL WINNERS) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that approaching the 800 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of ALL THE GLORY. As a consequence of this, that horse was crowded onto STRONGHEART which in turn was unnecessarily crowded for room, lost the running to which it was rightfully entitled and was checked. After taking into account all the circumstances in this case, particularly the relative inexperience of Apprentice C P Ting, the Stewards were of the opinion that the appropriate penalty was for Apprentice Ting to be suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday, 14 September 2000 on which day he may resume race riding. The suspension is to take immediate effect. Just after the 600 Metres, MANY HAPPY RETURNS, which was racing tight inside SUN DANCER, became unbalanced when awkwardly placed on the heels of SURPLUS. Approaching the 200 Metres, STRONGHEART was checked when crowded between DARING STEED and WONDERFUL WINNERS which shifted out. About 100 Metres out, DARING STEED, which was giving ground, was steadied when crowded for room between SUN DANCER and WONDERFUL WINNERS which was taken out slightly by SURPLUS. In the Straight, SUN DANCER hung in and proved difficult to ride. Apprentice C T Cheng (STRONGHEART) said the horse's poor run today in his opinion could be attributed entirely to the incidents in which it was involved at about the 800 Metres and again near the 200 Metres. STRONGHEART was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
