Racing Incident Report
After arriving at the barriers, Apprentice S K Sit reported to the Veterinary Surgeon that the horse was not striding out as he thought it should. MONZA was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who discussed the matter with the rider and following this the Veterinary Surgeon said in his opinion MONZA was suitable to race. MONZA, which was racing first up from a difficult gate, was obliged to race wide and was not able to find any cover. Over the concluding stages, the horse weakened. After the race, MONZA was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. He was unable to find any significant abnormalities. Before racing again, MONZA will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and will be subject to an official veterinary examination. IMPRESSIONIST missed the start slightly, was then checked when crowded between LUCKY SIX which on leaving the gates shifted out and WIN FOR LILY which shifted in away from IRONIC COMMANDER. In the early stages, COMMANDER CHARLIE proved very difficult to settle and threw its head about. On the turn, COMMANDER CHARLIE and KINDRED SPIRITS came together. About the 200 Metres, PEAK POWER was disappointed for running between LUCKY SIX and FLORAL JOY. After this, when trying to go forward, PEAK POWER was shifted out. When questioned, J Egan (JOKER) said at recent starts the horse has been somewhat disappointing and today from a gate towards the outside he was instructed by the Trainer to drop the horse out in the early stages, shift across behind other runners and try to take up a position somewhere about midfield. He said shortly after the start he shifted behind other runners, took up a position behind PEAK POWER, but then that horse did not go on as he thought it would and he ended up much further out of the race than he would have wished. He then said on the Home Turn his initial intention was to shift out and go forward, but as KINDRED SPIRITS and COMMANDER CHARLIE were also shifting out, he steadied and elected to shift back in and endeavoured to find running which he was able to do and JOKER then finished the race off quite nicely. The explanations submitted by J Egan were today accepted. PEAK POWER was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
