Racing Incident Report

On leaving the Parade Ring, SPARKY (Apprentice K C Tsang) made contact with a rail and sustained a superficial wound to the area of its off side hind cannon. SPARKY was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon at the Start. He discussed the action of the horse with Apprentice Tsang and it was then decided by the Veterinary Surgeon that SPARKY was suitable to race. On jumping, THANK HEAVENS knuckled. STERLING STAR jumped very awkwardly, threw its head towards the near side, then was reluctant to stretch out. The performance of STERLING STAR was considered by the Stewards to be unacceptable. Before the horse can race again, it will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and will be subject to an official veterinary examination. About the 800 Metres, ROMANTIC SYMPHONY was severely checked when crowded by PROJECTSTAR which had a tendency to get its head on the side and shift in away from SUPER CENTURY (F Coetzee) which momentarily shifted ground. Despite the severity of the check to ROMANTIC SYMPHONY, the Stewards were not satisfied that full responsibility for it rested with F Coetzee, therefore they decided not to take any direct action, but F Coetzee was severely reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he must make a greater effort sooner than he did today to ensure such crowding does not occur. About the 700 Metres, ROMANTIC SYMPHONY became unbalanced and brushed the running rail when awkward just inside the hindquarters of BASIC INSTINCT. STYLISH and STERLING STAR were sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
