Racing Incident Report

GOLDEN WARRIOR jumped very awkwardly, shifted out and bumped HAPPY ECLIPSE. Then running towards the first turn, HAPPY ECLIPSE proved difficult to settle and threw its head about. PO ON POWER jumped very awkwardly and threw its head about. Turning out of the Straight the first time, LIFO got its head on the side, hung in onto the heels of HAPPY ECLIPSE. For some distance after the 1000 Metres, CHEVAL D'OR and HERO'S WAY raced tight as HERO'S WAY endeavoured to shift out from the fence. In the early part of the Straight, HERO'S WAY was held up for running behind FORTUNE REACHING and tight inside RIGHT ON. HERO'S WAY shifted in abruptly about the 200 Metres to obtain running inside FORTUNE REACHING. Just after the 200 Metres, SING SING SING shifted out, this caused some inconvenience to PO ON POWER which was making ground and also to PROJECTVISION which was running on its outside. The Stewards allowed Mr P C Kan, Trainer of JAMIESON, an opportunity of explaining the horse's improved performance today when compared with its run on a similar track at Sha Tin on 6 December 2000. Mr Kan said on that day the horse was ridden by a claiming Apprentice and he was a little disappointed with the way the horse was allowed to give up its position in the middle stages. Today he engaged a senior rider, from a good gate, he gave the instructions that the horse was to be made jump and go forward. Mr Kan said he had given the horse an opportunity of freshening up over the last few weeks, but otherwise there had been no changes of any significance. He did point out today JAMIESON was racing down a class. Mr Kan was told whilst the Stewards would not proceed any further with the matter, it is disappointing to see horses finish 25 lengths from the lead one day and on a similar track over a similar distance be successful at their very next start. He was further told it is important for him and for the sport generally that he does not find himself to be in breach of the rule which deals with inconsistency in running of horses.
