Racing Incident Report

CHARMING STRIDE was slowly away. THE ESTABLISHMENT jumped very awkwardly. ALL THE BEST missed the start slightly, then in the early stages was obliged to race wide in an endeavour to get to the front. Throughout the race, LITTLE PLAYTHING hung in and about the 600 Metres hung in away from INVENTOR. As a consequence of this, crowding was caused to HEAVY WEAPON and TELECOM PRINCE. In the early part of the Straight, CHARMING STRIDE shifted out and made contact with THE ESTABLISHMENT. Over about the last 200 Metres, JEWEL BOX was unable to obtain clear running. As a consequence, the horse was not properly ridden out. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in. They were of the prima facie view that an incident had occurred in the Straight which cast sufficient doubt as to whether HEAVY WEAPON should be declared the winner of the race. They decided there was justification to have the matter resolved formally and openly at an objection hearing under Rule 151(iv). C Williams, the rider of TELECOM PRINCE, second placegetter, also objected against HEAVY WEAPON (Apprentice C H Tse) being declared the winner alleging interference to his mount in the Straight. Following the conduct of a formal hearing, the Stewards on all the available evidence were of the opinion that over about the last 200 Metres TELECOM PRINCE raced tight inside HEAVY WEAPON which shifted to the inside of DYNAMIC WINNINGS to go forward. As HEAVY WEAPON shifted in, DYNAMIC WINNINGS itself shifted to the inside of ALL THE BEST. In these circumstances, the Stewards were of the view the appropriate decision was to overrule the objection and accordingly the Judge's placings as semaphored were confirmed. W Woods (INVENTOR) explained in the run to the winning post he was concerned with the action of the horse. As a consequence, he did not ride it right out as he normally would. Before INVENTOR can race again, it will be subject to an official veterinary examination.
