Racing Incident Report
After arriving at the barrier, the Veterinary Surgeon noted that there was some blood in the mouth of PAR AVION. He examined the horse and decided it was suitable to race. SEA DRAGON PEARL left the gates very awkwardly with its head up and also bumped the inside of its stall. Just after the start, INDY'S GEM was taken in to a position behind BLESSINGS' PARTNER by PAR AVION which was proving difficult to settle and was shifting ground. Near the 1200 Metres PAR AVION threw its head about when awkwardly placed close to the heels of MUNDAHISH. Just after the 400 Metres, REWARD became momentarily unbalanced. When questioned, R Fradd (BONANZA) said that in recent weeks he has not been riding the horse work. Today from a good gate it was expected that BONANZA would take up a position close to the front. He said that BONANZA left the gates well, then was very reluctant to stretch out and got back to the rear. He went on to say that in the middle stages, he had to ride along hard and also he shifted to the outside as he thought that may have assisted BONANZA to go forward. He said after the race he did say to the Trainer that the horse may in future race more satisfactorily without the hood. J Egan (THE GREATEST) said that on the Home Turn, the horse became unbalanced and started to hang out. He said that he was convinced something was wrong with THE GREATEST and he did not ride it out as he normally would. After the race THE GREATEST was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and he said that the horse was showing signs of a heart irregularity. Before being allowed to race again, THE GREATEST will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. THE GREATEST was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
