Racing Incident Report

PERFECT CHOICE jumped awkwardly with its head on the side. MEGA-FIGHTER left the gates badly, then shifted ground. In the early stages, BOLD VICTORY, which was racing in a forward position, proved difficult to settle and several times threw its head about, as a consequence D Harrison was unbalanced on occasions. Near the 1200 Metres, MEGA-FIGHTER became unbalanced and lost its position when awkward between HOLLYWOOD STAR and PROSPEROUS DYNASTY. Throughout the race, PERFECT CHOICE hung in and about the 600 Metres brushed the running rail. Rounding the turn, ASCOT HERO hung out. Near the 400 Metres, BEETLE was momentarily awkward on the heels of PROSPEROUS DYNASTY. For a short distance near the 200 Metres, BASKETBALL WINNER was awkward behind SINCERELY YOURS and tight inside PROSPEROUS DYNASTY. When asked about the improved performance of WORLD STAR compared with its recent runs, Mr G Lane, Trainer, said the horse has always been rather a free worker on the track and in the run up to tonight's race, it continued to work well, but he acknowledged the horse had been racing in a very disappointing manner and before tonight's run the owners had contacted him with a view to retiring the horse. Mr Lane assured the Stewards that nothing different had been done so far as the work or gear of WORLD STAR was concerned and the improvement surprised him although he did acknowledge the horse was down in grade tonight. S Dye, who had ridden WORLD STAR in its recent runs, said two starts back at Happy Valley the horse jumped a shadow near the winning post the first time, became unbalanced and did not finish the race off at all. Subsequent to that, the Trainer decided to remove the blinkers from WORLD STAR and at its next run the horse again travelled satisfactorily, but did not quicken. S Dye said in tonight's race he was able to get a nice position from a difficult gate, WORLD STAR travelled well in the race and found the line strongly. He believed the drop in grade tonight was a significant factor in the horse showing the improvement it did. The Stewards considered the explanations put forward by Mr Lane and S Dye to be acceptable. MILLENNIUM LEGEND was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing. After the race, it was reported that ASCOT HERO had lost its off side front plate.
