Racing Incident Report

Before being presented in the Parade Ring, MEDIC HERO had its off side front plate refitted. The Trainer was notified of this. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and it was decided MEDIC HERO was suitable to race. TRIUMPHANT SMILE left the gates very awkwardly, puts its head up, initially shifted out and threw its head about, then shifted in. Before being allowed to race again, TRIUMPHANT SMILE will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. BONANZA was slowly away. In the early stages, I DELIVER proved difficult to settle, threw its head about. Rounding the turn and in the Straight, TATTENHALL hung in. Early in the Straight, DANCING SOUND was unable to obtain a clear run on the inside of COGITO. DANCING SOUND only obtained running with about 50 Metres to go, as a consequence the horse was not properly tested out in the Straight. For a short distance near the 400 Metres, AIR FORCE ONE was steadied when awkward behind I DELIVER and tight inside TATTENHALL which was laying in, then after the 100 Metres when making ground from a rearward position AIR FORCE ONE was steadied and shifted out to avoid ARRECTIS AURIBUS which shifted in. About 100 Metres out, KRISTOFFERSON was steadied and shifted in abruptly to avoid HANDSOME MAN. In the Straight, MIDAS KING hung in. J Egan (CHINA LEGEND) said he had been instructed to ride the horse worse than midfield if possible. He said CHINA LEGEND left the gates well, then put its head down, commenced to pull and the saddle shifted forward. As a consequence of this, he said he had little alternative but to shift out and ride the horse in a much more forward position than had been the intention. He said in allowing the horse to stride along early, he had hoped the saddle might shift back, but at no stage did it and the saddle was further forward than it should have been throughout the run. He said in the Straight CHINA LEGEND was well beaten, changed legs several times and weakened right out of the race. Before being allowed to race again, CHINA LEGEND will be required to undergo an official veterinary examination. CHINA LEGEND was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
