Racing Incident Report
After being boxed, PARTIKING became fractious and broke through the front of its gates. After travelling only a short distance, PARTIKING was pulled up, returned to the Start, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who discussed the horse's condition with M Kinane. It was then decided that PARTIKING was suitable to race. Before being allowed to race again, PARTIKING will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial (stalls test). REPUTATION missed the start slightly, was then checked and crowded between GLOBAL RUNNER which shifted out slightly and BRUIN SUPREME which on jumping shifted in abruptly away from ALWAYS ON which itself shifted in slightly. J Murtagh (SPOT ON) was reminded of his obligation regarding the Marker Pole Instruction. After the 1000 Metres, TIM'S TONIC, which was pulling hard and proving difficult to settle, was checked and shifted out when crowded between ALWAYS ON and TOPSPIN TOO (A Marcus) which was shifting in to a position behind BRUIN SUPREME. A Marcus was severely reprimanded and told to exercise much more care than this. Near the 800 Metres, GLOBAL RUNNER, which was being ridden along in an endeavour to maintain a position behind ALWAYS ON, was steadied when PARTIKING shifted in towards the running rail. Just before straightening, TOPSPIN TOO and SPOT ON bumped. In the early part of the Straight, ALWAYS ON experienced some difficulty obtaining clear running. To obtain a clear run, ALWAYS ON was steadied across the heels of firstly TOPSPIN TOO and then SPOT ON. When shifting ground, ALWAYS ON caused some inconvenience to TIM'S TONIC which was giving ground. In the run to the winning post, CHUK WAY shifted out to be racing tight with ALWAYS ON. J Murtagh explained he had ridden the horse in a forward position as instructed and over about the last 100 Metres after fully testing SPOT ON out, he considered the horse was well beaten and simply eased down in the run to the winning post. The explanations submitted by J Murtagh were accepted, however, he was told he should whenever possible ride all mounts out at least hands and heels to the finish. Whilst the Stewards were satisfied the riding of M Kinane (PARTIKING) in the run to the line did not materially affect the horse's finishing position, they did however advise M Kinane he must ride all mounts out at least hands and heels to the end of races whenever possible. D Harrison (BRUIN SUPREME) said his instructions had been to lead if possible. He said however in the early stages LANDLORD which had drawn inside him went forward, he was unable to carry out the instructions as directed. He said he had difficulty settling BRUIN SUPREME and the horse was also inclined to get its head up and hang out. He said in the Straight he checked when crowded for room approaching the 200 Metres when tightened between TOPSPIN TOO and CITY FORTUNE. He said however at that time BRUIN SUPREME was well beaten and over about the last 200 Metres dropped right out of the race and generally was very disappointing. In all the circumstances, the performance of BRUIN SUPREME was considered by the Stewards to be unacceptable. Before the horse will be allowed to race again, it will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. BRUIN SUPREME was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
