Racing Incident Report

STRATEGIC MOVE left the gates very awkwardly and was caught wide throughout. F Naude (SILLERENT) explained he had been instructed from an outside gate to ensure the horse was relaxed in the early stages and then in the Back Straight he was to shift out to improve and ensure he was in a handy position to challenge on straightening. He said in accordance with the instructions he shifted to the outside of other runners entering the Back Straight, however, runners on his inside also shifted out to go forward and he was obliged to cover much more ground than he would have wished over the concluding stages. Mr S T Wong, Trainer of SILLERENT, confirmed the instructions which had been to ensure the horse was relaxed in the early stages and then to improve on entering the Back Straight. Mr Wong was aware that as SILLERENT went forward, other runners improved on its inside and the horse was obliged to cover ground, but overall he expressed satisfaction with the way in which the horse had been ridden. The explanations submitted by F Naude and Mr Wong were accepted. SILLERENT was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
