Racing Incident Report

Before declaration THE OSCARS was subjected to the normal pre-race veterinary examination which in the opinion of the Veterinary Surgeon was satisfactory. However, the Stewards contacted the Veterinary Surgeons and requested that THE OSCARS be again examined yesterday morning. The horse was examined by Dr C P H Osborne and he reported that in his opinion THE OSCARS was suitable to race. He pointed out THE OSCARS had sustained some muscular injuries to its near hip which at this time were not causing the horse any problems. The Stewards were concerned with the amount of work done by THE OSCARS which was restricted mainly to swimming and some trotting would not satisfactorily prepare the horse for the race and after discussing the situation with Trainer T K Ng he assured the Stewards that the horse's condition would not prevent it from performing satisfactorily. It was decided THE OSCARS should take its place in the field. On leaving the Parade Ring, GOOD CHANCE knocked its off side hip against a rail. After arriving at the Start, GOOD CHANCE was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who could find no abnormalities. He discussed the matter with W M Lai and the Veterinary Surgeon then said in his opinion GOOD CHANCE was suitable to race. BOLD'N POWER, which was restless after being boxed, put its head down just as the gates opened and as a consequence lost considerable amount of ground. COMME D'HABITUDE left the gates awkwardly and shifted out, because of this D Whyte was momentarily unbalanced in the saddle. ROMANTIC SYMPHONY missed the start slightly, was then severely checked when tightened between COMME D'HABITUDE which shifted out and KIMBER which on leaving the gates shifted in abruptly. On jumping, FORTUNE MAKER shifted out abruptly, this caused HIGHLAND LEGEND to be unnecessarily crowded for room. Also on jumping, PERFECT FUN threw its head about. About 100 Metres out, SUPREME CAT was accidentally hit on the head by the whip of S Dye (HYDROGEN POWER) which was hanging out. ROMANTIC SYMPHONY and PERFECT FUN were sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
