Racing Incident Report
EVERWELL FOREVER was withdrawn on 5.10.01 on veterinary grounds (off eye corneal abrasion) and replaced by Standby Declared Starter HOLE IN ONE. On the way to the Start, TREASURE STAR kicked out and made contact with a rail. After arriving at the barrier, TREASURE STAR was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who discussed the horse's condition with the rider and it was then decided that TREASURE STAR was suitable to race. On jumping, BEAUTY FOUNTAIN was inconvenienced between TREASURE STAR which shifted out slightly and DANCING SURPASS which shifted in. DANELAW left the gates awkwardly and threw its head up. About the 1000 Metres, BEAUTY FOUNTAIN, which had a tendency to be over-racing, shifted out abruptly from behind AMBITIOUS WINNER to be racing behind MONEY STAR. Also about the 1000 Metres, WINMARK threw its head about when close to the heels of SING SING SING. Again at about the 800 Metres, WINMARK raced ungenerously, got its head up when behind SING SING SING and shifted ground. As a consequence of this, AMBITIOUS WINNER shifted out away from WINMARK and caused some crowding to MONEY STAR which was tight just inside the heels of BORN SMART. For a short distance near the 600 Metres, SPARTAN raced awkwardly between BEAUTY FOUNTAIN and IRON TYCOON which was racing wide. In the Straight, TREASURE STAR hung in and proved difficult to ride out. When giving ground in the Straight, HOLE IN ONE hung out. Just after the 200 Metres, SING SING SING, which had been racing tight for some distance between WINMARK and DANCING SURPASS, was checked when WINMARK which was hanging out shifted ground slightly and DANCING SURPASS which was improving shifted in slightly. In view of the circumstances, it was decided no action be taken. After being checked, SING SING SING was not ridden out to the winning post. Inside the 100 Metres, E Saint-Martin (WINMARK) had the whip knocked from his hand by the whip of D Dunn (DANCING SURPASS). When asked about the disappointing performance of AMBITIOUS WINNER, J Egan said its two runs this season had been at Happy Valley and the horse had been finishing its races off quite well. He did say however he rode the horse hard in its last start and he has noticed since then AMBITIOUS WINNER seems to be unnecessarily excited on the track in the morning. He went on to say the run today was poor and it may be in future AMBITIOUS WINNER will perform better if in races over slightly more ground and given an opportunity to settle. AMBITIOUS WINNER and TREASURE STAR were sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
