Racing Incident Report

TEMMOKU jumped with its head in the air. About the 1600 Metres, DANEFACTOR, which was pulling and racing close to the heels of VIPER CORP, shifted out abruptly. This caused some inconvenience to DRAGON POWER. When DANEFACTOR shifted back to the position behind VIPER CORP, EQUIKIT which was following was steadied to avoid its heels and got its head up. The incident in the opinion of the Stewards was due mainly to the pace. In the early stages, GREENMORE proved difficult to settle and raced close to the heels of FISHERMAN'S CREEK. When questioned, E Legrix (BELLAGIO) said the horse was racing without blinkers but had a tongue tie added to its gear. He said the intention was to try and ride the horse somewhere just off the pace if possible and in addition to this he was asked to find cover. He said BELLAGIO from an outside gate jumped well, he took up a position behind ALWAYS WIN which he thought was going to be satisfactory, but then at about the 1600 Metres when DRAGON POWER shifted out abruptly, he was obliged to shift from the position behind ALWAYS WIN, raced wider and he felt he had little alternative but to steady, come back and find cover behind DRAGON POWER. He pointed out as a result of this incident he got further out of the race than had been the intention. He did say in future it is hoped to try and ride BELLAGIO more forward than was the case today. The explanations submitted by E Legrix were accepted. D Whyte (ALWAYS WIN) said he had been riding the horse in some of its work since its last run and whilst the work was not outstanding, it was in his opinion quite satisfactory. He said today over 1800 Metres ALWAYS WIN was obliged to travel three wide and he was not able to find any cover. He said although ALWAYS WIN travelled satisfactorily during the race it did not quicken as he had hoped when put under full pressure. He did say on the bends ALWAYS WIN was inclined to lug out and after the race he suggested to the trainer of the horse that it may race better over slightly lesser ground and with more speed on. ALWAYS WIN was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that ALWAYS WIN was making a mild respiratory noise. He also reported that FISHERMAN'S CREEK was bleeding from both nostrils.
