Racing Incident Report
TRAVELLER STAR began very awkwardly, shifted in abruptly, causing CHATER JADE to be crowded onto the hindquarters of ASIAN EXPRESS. LEGEND OF WEI HAI and FOREVER BEST were slow to begin. In the early stages, DASHING WINNER proved difficult to settle. TRIUMPHANT STAR hung out badly making the turn at the 700 Metres and lost significant ground. The Stewards deemed the performance of TRIUMPHANT STAR in the circumstances to be unacceptable and before the horse can race again, it will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial around a bend. Near the 500 Metres, LEGEND OF WEI HAI was awkwardly placed inside the heels of GREEN CENTURY. In the early part of the Straight, when placed under pressure, SAGACIOUS hung out. D Whyte (GREEN CENTURY) said he had formed the opinion the horse would handle the All Weather Track after having trialed well on the surface on 9 October 2001. He said tonight GREEN CENTURY began fairly and he was able to obtain a position on the rail behind SAGACIOUS, however, in the early stages GREEN CENTURY appeared to resent the kickback, got its head up and commenced to hang out badly particularly on the turns. He added in the Straight GREEN CENTURY did not respond to his riding and was most disappointing. He said after easing GREEN CENTURY down following the race, he dismounted and led it back as the horse was fractious and proving difficult to return to the unsaddling enclosure. GREEN CENTURY was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
