Racing Incident Report

GRANVILLE ISLAND was withdrawn on 29.1.02 on veterinary grounds (lame off fore) and replaced by Standby Declared Starter TOP QUALITY (R Fradd). ROYAL STAR was also withdrawn on 29.1.02 on veterinary grounds (lame off side front leg and bruised off side front foot) and replaced by Standby Declared Starter HANDBAG'S HONOUR (L Hammer-Hansen). Before racing again, GRANVILLE ISLAND and ROYAL STAR will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. Whilst parading before the race, CLASSIC RIZZI kicked out behind and made contact with a rail. After arriving at the Start, CLASSIC RIZZI was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and following the necessary consultations he said CLASSIC RIZZI in his opinion was suitable to race. CASH FLOW left the gates very awkwardly, shifted in and then checked off the heels of SUPER BOLD RACER. About the 900 Metres, FISH KING was steadied to avoid the heels of AMITY which shifted in when only just clear. Y T Cheng (PERFECT SCORE) was severely reprimanded for the manner in which he rode from about the 600 Metres until near the 400 Metres. The Stewards were of the view that Y T Cheng had placed himself in a position to the inside of the heels of CLASSIC RIZZI which not only put himself at risk but all those around him. He was told similar riding simply could not be condoned in the future. Rounding the turn, TOP QUALITY hung out. AMITY made the latter part of the turn awkwardly with its head up and hung out. About the 400 Metres, WINNING PARADE and RENA'S WUNDERBAR bumped. For a short distance after the 200 Metres, PERFECT SCORE raced tight between WINNING PARADE and FISH KING. D Whyte (WINNING PARADE) explained after being boxed, CLASSIC RIZZI, which had drawn to his inside, became fractious, kicked out behind several times and rattled the gates. When this was happening, WINNING PARADE made an effort to lunge forward, the last occasion this occurred WINNING PARADE was being pulled back to its correct position just as the gates opened. WINNING PARADE then came out very awkwardly, bounded in the air and as a consequence lost considerable amount of ground. The occurrence in the opinion of the Stewards was an accidental one. WINNING PARADE was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
