Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, the tongue tie on CHARMING CITY had to be refitted. When the gates opened, TRIPLE EXPRESSO bounded in the air and just after the start was bumped on the shoulder by CLIFFHANGER which shifted out. DANAMITE left the gates awkwardly. TENACITY also came out awkwardly and just after the start was tightened for room between DANAMITE which was taken out by KENWOOD MELODY and BEST OF THE BEST which on jumping threw its head about and shifted in. SPARKY jumped awkwardly. About the 300 Metres, BEST OF THE BEST was steadied and shifted in to avoid DANAMITE which was hanging out. Throughout the race, DANAMITE hung out and after the 200 Metres when making ground was steadied and changed course to avoid OUR CLASS. F Coetzee (OUR CLASS) said the horse does have a somewhat funny mouth, in the early stages was inclined to shift in, but then over the concluding stages when put under pressure the horse momentarily started to hang out, because of this he had to change his whip hand and when changing the whip to his left hand, the end of the whip was momentarily caught in the rein. OUR CLASS and WINNING COUNTER were sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon noted that OUR CLASS was bleeding from the mouth. This was as a result of the horse cutting the tip of its tongue caused in the opinion of the Veterinary Surgeon by the tongue tie. Following the race, it was reported that TRIPLE EXPRESSO had lost its near side hind plate.
