Racing Incident Report

A RUN OF LUCK left the gates awkwardly and threw its head about. TOP DANCER was slowly away. For a short distance just after the start, WINNING PLEASURE raced ungenerously and threw its head about. Then in the middle stages, WINNING PLEASURE had a tendency to lay out and was awkwardly placed just inside the hindquarters of GOLFING PARTNERS. Approaching and rounding the Home Turn, SPRINTER hung out. In the Straight, CHOICE AND CHANCE hung out. After the 200 Metres, HIN YUEN'S UNICORN was checked severely when crowded between WELL EXPRESS (B Marcus) which was shifting in and TOP DANCER (Y T Cheng) which was shifting out and endeavouring to improve between MASCOT and HIN YUEN'S UNICORN where in the opinion of the Stewards there was insufficient room for him to do so. The Stewards gave careful consideration to all evidence submitted and decided it would be inappropriate to find B Marcus fully responsible for the check which occurred, however, he was reprimanded and told when shifting ground in similar circumstances he must stop riding and straighten much sooner than he did today. Y T Cheng was told his riding at this stage had bordered on being in breach of a serious rule and before endeavouring to improve his position in future he must ensure he has safe racing room. In the run to the winning post, WINNING PLEASURE continued to hang out and made contact with the hindquarters of SUPER TEAM. Whilst the Stewards considered the riding of Apprentice S K Sit (MASCOT) in the run to the line did not affect the horse's finishing position and accordingly a breach of Rule 100(2) did not occur, they did however advise Apprentice S K Sit that he must ride all mounts out at least hands and heels to the end of the race whenever possible. GOLFING PARTNERS was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
