Racing Incident Report
TOM'S FIRST was withdrawn on 15.6.02 on veterinary grounds (lame near fore) and replaced by Standby Declared Starter FRENCH FRY (M Cahill). Before being allowed to race again, TOM'S FIRST will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. B Fayd'herbe (ASPIRATION) was fined $2,000 for presenting himself late at scale to weigh out. Before the declaration of weighed-in, K S Yu (RESOURCEFUL PRINCE) sought permission to view the available video films as he was of the view there may have been grounds to object against I WIN being declared the winner. However, after seeing the films, K S Yu acknowledged it would be inappropriate on this occasion to proceed with a formal objection. Accordingly weighed-in was semaphored. On jumping, PRECIOUS SWEETIE was severely checked when crowded between HOROSCOPE which left the gates awkwardly and shifted in abruptly and WONDERFUL LIFE which was taken out abruptly by BOLD VISION. When BOLD VISION bumped WONDERFUL LIFE, it became badly unbalanced, almost dislodging A Marcus. As a consequence of PRECIOUS SWEETIE being severely checked, it got well back. WATCH ME WIN left the gates awkwardly. When the gates opened, FRENCH FRY bounded in the air, was then ridden along to go forward. Near the 400 Metres, BUCK'S FIZZ shifted out slightly and made contact with EARL GREY. About the 300 Metres, HOROSCOPE was steadied and shifted in to avoid WONDERFUL LIFE. About the 200 Metres, WATCH ME WIN was checked when crowded between FRENCH FRY and I WIN (H K Yim) which was hanging in and shifting ground whilst being ridden out. Then shortly after the 200 Metres, FRENCH FRY became unbalanced when being steadied to avoid the heels of I WIN which continued to shift in. After giving careful consideration to the incident, it was decided to take no direct action, but H K Yim was severely reprimanded and told he must exercise far more care. About 100 Metres out, ASPIRATION was steadied and changed course when disappointed for running between WATCH ME WIN and FRENCH FRY which shifted out. Then near the winning post, ASPIRATION got its head up when awkwardly placed on the heels of FRENCH FRY which momentarily shifted in. Apprentice M W Leung (PRECIOUS SWEETIE) said he had been instructed by the trainer to endeavour to ride the horse as he had done at recent starts, that is in a leading position, and try and allow PRECIOUS SWEETIE a breather in the middle stages. He said however because of the severe check he received on leaving the gates, he was not able to carry out the instructions he had been given and got well back. The explanations submitted were accepted. EARL GREY and BOLD VISION were sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
