Racing Incident Report

SMILEY WIN was withdrawn on raceday morning on veterinary grounds (lame left fore foot). Before being allowed to race again, SMILEY WIN will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. The start was delayed as SWEETIE was difficult to load into its stall. Before SWEETIE can race again, it will need to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. EQUUS ZEPHYRUS, which had been assisted by an attendant, missed the start slightly, was further inconvenienced when crowded between APRIL HARE which left the gates awkwardly, got its head on the side and shifted out and LUCK AND FORTUNE which shifted in. FORTUNE MAPLE left the gates awkwardly. On jumping, M Cahill (HANDSOME FORTUNE) momentarily lost the use of his right side stirrup iron. He was able to regain it about 100 Metres after the start. About the 500 Metres, BLAZING MOON was momentarily crowded for room between NIGHT HUNTER II and APRIL HARE. Near the winning post, WINNING SEASON and HANDSOME FORTUNE came together. When allowed an opportunity of explaining the poor performance of SUNNY, Y T Cheng said the horse was carrying considerably more weight this evening. He said he had not been on the horse's back since its last run. He went on to say SUNNY jumped well, but to him did not appear to be as keen in tonight's race as last week and gave ground badly over the concluding stages. SUNNY was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer said SUNNY had a pronounced right front gait abnormality. Before SUNNY can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. WINNING SEASON, HAPPY ECLIPSE and FORTUNE MAPLE were sent for sampling.

The Club's Senior Veterinary Officer, Dr Brian Stewart, has today (16 September) advised when he examined SUNNY at the stables of Trainer D Cruz yesterday, the horse was lame in both front legs. It was decided last Saturday that before SUNNY can race again, it is required to pass an official veterinary examination.
