Racing Incident Report

A Marcus was fined $2,000 for accepting the rides on both DRAGON HORSE and BRILLIANT EXPRESS. It was established that A Marcus had a firm commitment for DRAGON HORSE and permission was given for R Quinn to be engaged to ride BRILLIANT EXPRESS. When being saddled, it was noted that SUPER FAST had some swelling under its jaw. SUPER FAST was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and following the necessary discussions it was decided SUPER FAST was suitable to race. EUPHORIC KID and WAIALAE WIN were slowly away. When the gates opened, PAOBRIDGE bounded in the air. Over the concluding stages, TRIUMPHANT STAR hung out. When questioned, H K Yim (SILVERBIRD) explained he had ridden the horse in some of its work which was satisfactory, however, SILVERBIRD had been green on the track and was inclined to run away from those with which it was working. He also said the trial of SILVERBIRD had been only moderate. He said the instructions were to be somewhere about midfield, but on jumping he was checked when crowded between GOLFING PARTNERS and DRAGON HORSE and got further back than he would have wished. He said when he tried to make some ground at about the 400 Metres, he steadied and changed course to avoid PLENTY OF LUCK which shifted out. He explained to avoid PLENTY OF LUCK, he shifted in, was riding the horse hard hands and heels and again was steadied and changed course abruptly to avoid DRAGON HORSE which was giving ground in front of him, on this occasion he had to shift out abruptly. He concluded by saying the run of SILVERBIRD was in his opinion quite promising. The explanations submitted today by H K Yim were accepted. S Dye (GOLFING PARTNERS) said the horse had done some strong work on the Riverside Gallop, it had not trialed going into today's race. He said GOLFING PARTNERS left the gates cleanly, travelled well for about the first half of the race, but over the concluding stages did not respond to his riding and was in his opinion somewhat disappointing. GOLFING PARTNERS was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, GOLFING PARTNERS was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No significant findings were detected. DRAGON HORSE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, DRAGON HORSE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No significant findings were detected. BRILLIANT EXPRESS and RARE COLLECTION were sent for sampling. On pulling up, it was noted PAOBRIDGE was making an abnormal breathing noise. An endoscopic examination was carried out. No significant findings were detected. However, before PAOBRIDGE can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination.
