Racing Incident Report

Mr D A Hayes, trainer of MENDOZA, was fined $2,000 for presenting the horse in the Parade Ring with other than its registered gear. MENDOZA was inadvertently presented to race in a ring bit. GOLDEN GONG was slowly away and was further inconvenienced when tightened between UNBREAKABLE and SCENIC STAR, both of which shifted ground. SHABU SHABU left the gates awkwardly, then just after the start was steadied when tightened between RESOURCEFUL PRINCE and HARMONY PARTNER which shifted in. For some distance in the early and middle stages, MENDOZA pulled hard and proved somewhat difficult to settle. In the run to the winning post, MENDOZA shifted out, this caused some inconvenience to SHABU SHABU and as a consequence that horse was not ridden to the line in the normal fashion. UNBREAKABLE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. On pulling up, it was noted UNBREAKABLE was making an abnormal breathing noise and also it was noted the horse had a poor action during the run. The Veterinary Officer said when he examined the horse he was unable to detect any abnormalities. An endoscopy showed signs of the horse having a soft palate. Before UNBREAKABLE can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. CIRCUIT KINGDOM and MEDIC CORPS were sent for sampling.
