Racing Incident Report

On jumping, TRIUMPHANT STAR and NEW DYNASTY came together. SUPER BROSE missed the start slightly. At the start, SUNNY DESERT was momentarily crowded for room between ALLWIN COMBINATION and SPEEDY EXPRESS which shifted out. TUMBLER left the gates awkwardly, shifted out and bumped FIGHTING MASCOT. In the early and middle stages, NEW DYNASTY hung out. Over the concluding stages, LASER GLORY hung out rather badly. The Stewards allowed D Whyte an opportunity of explaining the disappointing performance of TUMBLER. He said he had been riding the horse in its recent work which he considered to be satisfactory and he was of the view the horse would run into tonight's race with a good chance. He did say however TUMBLER was more "stirred up" before the race tonight than it usually was, this was of concern to him. He also said after being boxed TUMBLER was more fractious than he had noticed in the past. He said the horse came from the gates awkwardly, shifted out abruptly, then in the early stages seemed to be on its wrong leg and was quite unbalanced. He said TUMBLER at no stage in his opinion travelled as he thought it should and was very disappointing. TUMBLER was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, TUMBLER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No abnormalities were detected. The performance of TUMBLER was considered by the Stewards to be unacceptable. Before the horse can race again, it will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and must pass an official veterinary examination. SUPER BROSE and CHAMPION WINNER were sent for sampling. Subsequent to the race, it was noted that SUPER BROSE had sustained a laceration to its left side front leg. After the race, it was reported TRIUMPHANT STAR was bleeding from both nostrils.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 18 Oct 2002):
Dr Stewart reported yesterday after racing he examined TUMBLER and was unable to detect any abnormalities. He examined TUMBLER again yesterday. He has now noted the horse has multiple arthritic problems. He said in his opinion it is stiff in both front fetlock joints and does have a significant pain in the lower back.
