Racing Incident Report
When the gates opened, TOY QUEST bounded in the air. KIMBERLEY MINES came from the gates awkwardly and threw its head about. On jumping, GRANDIOSO also threw its head around. Near the 800 Metres, EASTERN PURPLE and TOY QUEST were both severely crowded for room. On inquiry, it was established that TOY QUEST missed the start slightly, then improved to be racing inside EASTERN PURPLE which was over racing. After EASTERN PURPLE was cleared by KIMBERLEY MINES, it pulled its way to be racing just inside the hindquarters of that horse. The crowding to both TOY QUEST and EASTERN PURPLE was significant, however, because of all the circumstances, the Stewards were unable to attribute responsibility to any rider and deemed the occurrence to be accidental. For some distance after the 300 Metres, KIMBERLEY MINES had trouble obtaining a run. To obtain running after the 200 Metres, KIMBERLEY MINES was shifted out abruptly across the heels of SNIPPETYIYEA and FANTASY to get to the outside. After the 200 Metres, GRAND FIGHTER shifted out and made contact with GREEN CENTURY. S Dye (SNIPPETYIYEA) said from the outside gate he had been told by the trainer to ride the horse where in his opinion it felt comfortable. He said today he had an attendant in the stalls with him and SNIPPETYIYEA did jump better than it had done in the past. He said he had hoped there would have been more early speed and the field would spread out. Running to the first turn he became aware he was going to get caught very wide and he therefore elected to let SNIPPETYIYEA run forward and although travelling three wide without any cover, he thought in the circumstances of this race it was in the best interests of SNIPPETYIYEA to do so. FANTASY, KIMBERLEY MINES and GRAND FIGHTER were sent for sampling.
