Racing Incident Report

GLOBAL FORTUNE was slowly away and was further inconvenienced by WINNING PARADE which on jumping shifted in abruptly. On leaving the gates, HIN YUEN'S UNICORN shifted out, causing some inconvenience to FULL MOMENTUM. In the early stages, COOL SWING pulled hard, made the first turn awkwardly, got its head up and shifted out. Approaching and rounding the Home Turn, FULL MOMENTUM hung out badly. D Whyte pleaded guilty to a charge of improper riding [Rule 100(1)]. The improper riding being that on straightening he turned his mount's head outwards in an endeavour to obtain uninterrupted running on the outside of MUNDAHISH, in doing so made significant contact with WINNING PARADE on three occasions which at the time was racing immediately on his outside. As a consequence of this, WINNING PARADE was badly unbalanced. In considering the penalty which should be imposed in this case, the Stewards took into account the guilty plea submitted by D Whyte, the submissions he put in relation to the racing behaviour of COOL SWING and decided the appropriate penalty was for his licence to ride in races be suspended for a period to expire on Sunday 8 December 2002 on which day he may resume race riding (7 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the meeting at Sha Tin next Wednesday evening 13 November 2002. W C Marwing (LUCKY MASTER) said he had ridden the horse in work last Friday, he was concerned with the way the horse had worked that day and reported accordingly to the trainer. He said at no stage of today's race did the horse travel as he thought it should, over the concluding stages proved very disappointing and as he was concerned with the way the horse had finished the race off, he reported this to the veterinary staff on pulling up. Mr K L Man, trainer of LUCKY MASTER, confirmed Jockey Marwing had spoken to him last Friday. Mr Man said he and his staff had a look at the horse, they were satisfied with it and as the horse had passed its pre-race veterinary check, he felt it was suitable to race today. Mr Man did say LUCKY MASTER was up in class today and whilst he was not confident of success, he did think the horse would run well, but its run was disappointing. Dr Brian Stewart, Senior Veterinary Officer, said the pre-race veterinary check had revealed the horse was showing signs of soreness in its rump and over its back, also exhibited a choppy action behind. However, the horse was passed to race. LUCKY MASTER was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, LUCKY MASTER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No abnormalities were detected. LUCKY MASTER will be again examined at the stable of Mr Man tomorrow. The performance of LUCKY MASTER was considered unacceptable. Before it can race again, it must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. BOLD'N POWER was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. Subsequent to the race, BOLD'N POWER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No abnormalities were detected. The performance of BOLD'N POWER, a last start winner at Happy Valley, was considered unacceptable. Before the horse can race again, it must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. GLOBAL FORTUNE and COOL SWING were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 25 Nov. 2002) :
In relation to LUCKY MASTER which also ran that day, Dr Stewart said the clinical work on the horse has been completed. A bone scan was performed and this revealed a "hot spot" which in his opinion was indicative of a stress fracture, was identified in the large bone between the horse's elbow and its shoulder of the right front leg. The horse was found to be suitable to race at the racing check examination, however, Dr Stewart did say it is likely the pain of the stress fracture was only apparent during galloping and could not be detectable at rest or during trotting. As previously reported, before LUCKY MASTER can race again, it must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and is required to pass an official veterinary examination.
