Racing Incident Report
RED PEPPER was withdrawn on 14.12.02 on veterinary grounds (left fore infection). Before RED PEPPER can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. INDIAN CREEK was slowly away. Turning out of the Straight the first time, DR MORE, which was also pulling, threw its head about when awkward on the heels of CELLINI. As a consequence of this, inconvenience was caused to GRANDERA. In the early stages, PAOLINI proved difficult to settle and threw its head about. Mostly in the early stages, a number of runners were inconvenienced due primarily to the slow pace. The main sufferers were PAOLINI, DR MORE, ROYAL TREASURE, CELLINI, EISHIN PRESTON and particularly GRANDERA. After the 1400 Metres, GRANDERA was shifted out abruptly across the heels of EISHIN PRESTON. As a consequence of this, PRECISION was obliged to race wider. Near the 400 Metres, GRANDERA and INDIAN CREEK bumped. Near the 300 Metres, CELLINI, which was giving ground, was steadied when momentarily crowded by PAOLINI which shifted in. Y Fukunaga (EISHIN PRESTON) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)]. The careless riding being that at about the 100 Metres he shifted his mount outwards when not clear of GRANDERA. As a consequence of this, GRANDERA was bumped by EISHIN PRESTON, obliged to shift ground and made contact with INDIAN CREEK which in turn had to shift ground and as a consequence bumped SARAFAN. After considering all the circumstances of this case including the guilty plea and the frankness of Y Fukunaga towards the conclusion of the inquiry, it was decided the appropriate penalty in this case was for him to be suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 2 January 2003 on which day he may resume race riding (4 Hong Kong race days). The suspension is to take immediate effect. In the run to the winning post, PRECISION had its head on the side, shifted in and on one occasion brushed DANO-MAST. GRANDERA was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported GRANDERA had sustained a laceration to its right front cannon. PRECISION and PAOLINI were sent for sampling. Also after the race, it was noted EISHIN PRESTON had abrasions to both hind legs.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 16 Dec. 2002) :
The Club's Senior Veterinary Officer, Dr Brian Stewart, has today advised he noted this morning ROYAL TREASURE has sustained an abrasion to the cornea of the right eye.
