Racing Incident Report

On the way to the Start, D Dunn was dislodged from FAST LANE. The horse was caught, remounted and after arriving at the Start was trotted up, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and after the necessary consultations he considered in his opinion it was suitable to race. After arriving at the Start, W M Lai (FANTASTICO) expressed some concern about the way the horse worked to the gates. FANTASTICO was trotted up, the Veterinary Surgeon examined the horse, discussed the matter with W M Lai and it was then decided FANTASTICO was suitable to race. MILLENNIUM SUPREME left the gates awkwardly, was then checked when crowded between MAGNIFICENT and BARFOLD HERO which on jumping got its head on the side and shifted in abruptly. In the opinion of the Stewards, the occurrence was accidental. WINNING SUNSHINE came from the stalls very badly, threw its head about, was then immediately steadied and shifted across behind the field to take up a position at the rear but close to the rail. In the early stages, BARFOLD HERO pulled hard, raced greenly and shifted a lot of ground. Near the 700 Metres, GREAT SENSATION, which was pulling hard, shifted ground abruptly to avoid the heels of GREAT STAR, in doing so GREAT SENSATION bumped the hindquarters of BARFOLD HERO which in turn shifted ground, causing inconvenience to TOP DANCER. MAGNIFICENT, which was following, was hampered as a consequence. Because of all the circumstances, no action was taken. About the 500 Metres, BARFOLD HERO, which was racing ungenerously, shifted out rather abruptly from behind WISDOM EXPRESS, in doing so caused TOP DANCER to shift out slightly and this also inconvenienced MAGNIFICENT. About the 300 Metres, WINNING SUNSHINE was steadied and shifted to the outside of MAGNIFICENT to find running and go forward. A Suborics (HIN YUEN'S UNICORN) explained in the run to the winning post, GREAT STAR shifted out and brushed his mount. Because of this, HIN YUEN'S UNICORN raced tight between SPINNING CITY and GREAT STAR, was reluctant to hold its position and near the winning post threw its head up. He also said approaching the winning post his whip was momentarily caught under the number cloth of SPINNING CITY. S Dye (HIGH HILL FOREST) said after the 400 Metres he had running between FANTASTICO and SPINNING CITY, but near the 300 Metres SPINNING CITY shifted in when GREAT STAR shifted ground in front of it. As a consequence of this he was carried onto the heels of FANTASTICO, but shortly after HIGH HILL FOREST put its head down, he thought the horse might have suffered a bleeding attack and he seriously considered pulling it up. He said however after checking he was satisfied the horse did not bleed and continued riding it to the line. HIGH HILL FOREST was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, HIGH HILL FOREST was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had a moderate amount of mucus in the trachea. It has been decided before HIGH HILL FOREST can race again, it must pass an official veterinary examination. MILLENNIUM SUPREME was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, MILLENNIUM SUPREME was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No abnormalities were detected. SPINNING CITY and GREAT STAR were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 27 Dec. 2002) :
After racing yesterday, MILLENNIUM SUPREME was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He was unable to detect any abnormalities. When he examined the horse at the stable of Trainer A S Cruz today, he noted the horse had mild conjunctivitis in its right eye.
