Racing Incident Report

On jumping, FLORAL KING and MULTIWINNING were checked severely and SEASONS TREASURE checked when crowded for room between MASTER YING and LOYAL DEVOTION which shifted out abruptly. No action was taken. At the 1300 Metres, BY INSTINCT commenced to pull, got its head up and shifted out abruptly away from AMBITIOUS TYCOON which steadied in front. In the middle stages, MULTIWINNING over-raced. P Smullen (BOBO DUCK) said at about the 200 Metres the horse became unbalanced in its action. As he was concerned with this, he did not ride the horse out to the line. Before being permitted to race again, BOBO DUCK will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. When questioned, W C Marwing (JOYFUL SPIRIT) said the intention had been from a wide barrier today to ride the horse quietly in the early stages and obtain cover. He said when the gates opened, JOYFUL SPIRIT bounded in the air and immediately lost ground, however, this was of little concern to him as he obtained a nice position in the run following SIROCCO. He did say however JOYFUL SPIRIT was difficult to settle in the early stages. He said previously JOYFUL SPIRIT had shown a reluctance to finish races off strongly if it reached the front too early. He said because of this running to the Home Turn, he formed the opinion SIROCCO was travelling extremely well and he elected to remain following that horse in the early stages of the Straight instead of improving to its inside where running was available. He said he remained behind SIROCCO until after the 300 Metres when he shifted to the outside of that horse, however, JOYFUL SPIRIT in his opinion finished the race off only fairly. JOYFUL SPIRIT was examined by the Veterinary Officer following the race. He noted the horse had shifted its right hind plate and sustained a puncture wound to that foot as a result of having stood on a nail. The explanations submitted by W C Marwing were accepted. SIROCCO and ONE MORE ROUND were sent for sampling.
