Racing Incident Report

DASHING WINNER was slow to begin. On jumping, IDOL shifted in abruptly. This caused crowding to a number of runners on its inside. The worst sufferers being TOP PRIZE, CELLINI and BULL'S EYE. SUPREME RABBIT, which was being ridden in a rearward position today, proved difficult to settle in the early and middle stages and on a number of occasions got its head up. At the 1400 Metres, DASHING WINNER was checked when crowded for room by SUPREME RABBIT which when proving difficult to settle got its head on the side and shifted in abruptly away from the heels of MOMENTUM. In the circumstances, no action was taken. For some distance after straightening, SUPER GOAL STRIKER (S K Sit) endeavoured to improve into a run where there was insufficient room to the outside of IDOL and inside LUCKSWELL and on several occasions made contact with LUCKSWELL. S K Sit was severely reprimanded and told in slightly different circumstances he could be charged with a breach of a serious rule. He was told whilst the Stewards always encourage competitive riding, on this occasion he had taken his competitiveness to the permissible limit. W C Marwing (COME SEE YOU) said he had been riding the horse in track work leading up to today's race and in his opinion this work was good. He said despite having drawn a wide barrier he was able to obtain a nice position behind the pace in the run and COME SEE YOU travelled comfortably with the race being run at a good gallop. He said he became concerned when the leaders quickened at the 600 Metres and despite his riding his mount failed to pick up the bit and track forward with them. He said in the Straight COME SEE YOU did not respond to his riding and was disappointing, however, he was unable to offer any explanation for the performance. Before COME SEE YOU can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. REBEL LEADER was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. Following the race, REBEL LEADER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. An endoscopic examination was conducted and this showed a significant amount of blood in the trachea. Before REBEL LEADER can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. CELLINI was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, CELLINI was examined by the Veterinary Officer. An endoscopic examination was carried out and this showed a significant amount of mucus in the trachea. Before being permitted to race again, CELLINI will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. DR MORE and DASHING WINNER were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 4 Feb. 2003) :
A veterinary examination of REBEL LEADER immediately following the race showed the horse to have significant quantities of blood in its trachea. The Senior Veterinary Officer today again examined REBEL LEADER at the stables of Trainer G Lane. He reported at this time it was noted REBEL LEADER was lame in the right hind leg and also had severe rump muscle soreness.
As previously advised, REBEL LEADER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being permitted to race again.
