Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, DEEP PURPLE stood flat-footed and lost ground. XLERATE began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped NOT GUILTY. In the early stages, CUPID proved difficult to settle. From a barrier towards the outside, XLERATE was obliged to race three wide and without cover. At the 800 Metres, LUCKY FRIENDS became unbalanced when momentarily crowded between XLERATE and CUPID which when continuing to pull was awkwardly placed close to the heels of CLAWS OF THUNDER and shifted out slightly. Inconvenience was also caused to EXCELLENCE FOREVER, BLACK CARBINE and DEEP PURPLE which were following. No action was taken. Approaching the 200 Metres, HAPPY FORTUNE commenced to shift in and bumped with CLAWS OF THUNDER which had been shifted to the outside of FABULOUS to obtain a clear run and go forward. For some distance after being bumped, CLAWS OF THUNDER raced tight inside HAPPY FORTUNE which continued to lay in. For a short distance after the 200 Metres, CUPID was awkwardly placed between SUPER ELITE and GOT IT RIGHT, both of which were giving ground. SUPER ELITE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of SUPER ELITE following the race did not show any significant findings. CLAWS OF THUNDER and XLERATE were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 17 Feb. 2003) :
After the race, SUPER ELITE was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant abnormalities. SUPER ELITE was examined again by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer K W Lui this morning, was noted to be lame in the left front leg and to be moving badly behind. Before SUPER ELITE can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination.
