Racing Incident Report
SUPREME RABBIT began awkwardly, got its head up and lost ground. On jumping, SNIPPEDYDOODA and GOLD FIELD bumped. SUPER BLITZ was slow to begin. From the outside gate, AMBITIOUS TYCOON was taken back to the rear and shifted in to find cover. At the 1000 Metres, SHANGHAI KING was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of SNIPPEDYDOODA. In the middle stages, SNIPPEDYDOODA hung out badly. For some distance approaching and passing the 200 Metres, EQUATOR KID was held up and unable to obtain clear running between SALENTINO which was giving ground and SERIOUS PLAY. Over the concluding stages, SERIOUS PLAY was awkwardly placed on the outside of SUPREME RABBIT and inside the heels of HELENE MOMENTUM. Because of this, the horse was not ridden to the line as it normally would be. G Schofield (CHEERS CHINA) said he had been informed by Trainer I W Allan in the Parade Ring prior to today's race the horse had shown its best form before being imported to Hong Kong when racing in the lead, accordingly he was asked to ride the horse in a forward position today. He said CHEERS CHINA began fairly, he immediately commenced to ride his mount along in an endeavour to carry out the instruction. He said after obtaining a position outside the leader at about the 1300 Metres, CHEERS CHINA travelled comfortably until commencing to give ground quickly on straightening. He said he became concerned with the action of CHEERS CHINA and therefore did not ride it to the line over the concluding stages. Mr Allan explained CHEERS CHINA had won on 3 occasions while racing in Germany and each time had raced in the lead. He said at the horse's most recent start, he instructed the rider to ride the horse as forward in the field as he was able, however, CHEERS CHINA on this occasion failed to show any speed. He said after this run he added blinkers to the gear of CHEERS CHINA and its work when in this gear had sharpened up. The performance of CHEERS CHINA was considered unacceptable. CHEERS CHINA was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A post race clinical examination of CHEERS CHINA including an endoscopy was carried out. This showed a significant amount of mucus in the horse's trachea. Before the horse can race again, it will be required to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. HIMALAYA and JOYFUL SPIRIT were sent for sampling.
