Racing Incident Report

CLASSIC CHOICE was withdrawn on 18.2.03 on veterinary grounds (stiff both front fetlocks) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter THUNDER MAN (G Mossé). Before CLASSIC CHOICE can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. While being transported to the course, the right front plate on SAMMY TREASURE shifted. After arriving on the course, this plate was reset. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who considered it suitable to race. After being boxed, GOOD WIN broke through. GOOD WIN was quickly restrained by D Dunn, its rider, returned to the Start where it was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and after the necessary consultations was considered suitable to race. Before GOOD WIN can race again, it will be required to pass a stalls test. PROFIT TREASURE and LOK WAH SUCCESS were slow to begin. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, BOXING DAY, which was proving difficult to settle, was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of GOOD WIN (D Dunn) which shifted in when not clear. D Dunn was severely reprimanded. At the 1100 Metres, SAMMY TREASURE was momentarily steadied when tight inside QUICK STEP. At the 600 Metres, BOXING DAY lost ground when momentarily crowded by TELECOM PRINCE. After the 300 Metres, OVER SUBSCRIBE became unbalanced and blundered, causing E Saint-Martin, its rider, to be dislodged. PROFIT TREASURE, which was following, was severely checked and shifted out to avoid OVER SUBSCRIBE. E Saint-Martin was subsequently examined by the Club's duty doctor who said he was fit to fulfil his remaining riding engagements. Over the concluding stages, LOK WAH SUCCESS did not obtain clear running between BOXING DAY and TELECOM PRINCE, both of which were giving ground. Also over the concluding stages, SAMMY TREASURE was steadied when disappointed for running between TELECOM PRINCE and PLEASANT SUCCESS which shifted in slightly. Because of this, SAMMY TREASURE was not ridden out to the line as it normally would be. Throughout the race, UNIVERSAL GLORY was obliged to race wide and without cover. THUNDER MAN and QUICK STEP were sent for sampling. Following the race, R Fradd reported in his opinion PROFIT TREASURE was not striding out freely. The horse will be examined by the Veterinary Officer tomorrow. The Stewards decided before PROFIT TREASURE can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. After the race, the Veterinary Officer noted QUICK STEP had sustained a laceration to its right hind leg as a result of being galloped on.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 20 Feb. 2003) :
As mentioned in last night's Racing Incidents Report, R Fradd said in his opinion PROFIT TREASURE was not striding out freely during the race. The horse was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer this morning at the stables of Trainer K L Man who said there were no significant findings.
As previously advised, PROFIT TREASURE will not be allowed to race again until it passes an official veterinary examination.
