Racing Incident Report
After being boxed, SUN HEI GLORY became fractious and as the gates opened bounded in the air, consequently was slow to begin. Also after being boxed, WINNING SMILE became fractious and reared, then began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly. Shortly after the start, WINNING SMILE and SHENANEGAN were checked when crowded for room by TRIUMPH which was taken in by SHARE THE FUN which shifted in abruptly. No action was taken. In the early stages, TRY THE BEST proved difficult to settle and after the 800 Metres got its head up on a number of occasions when close to the heels of SOUNDS BETTER. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, WINNING SMILE hung out badly. Mr K L Man, trainer of the horse, was advised should WINNING SMILE perform similarly again, action may be taken against it. At the 700 Metres, SHENANEGAN was steadied when momentarily crowded for room by TRIUMPH. Also at the 700 Metres and again after the 600 Metres, CHINA CAT was steadied when crowded for room by TRY THE BEST which was hanging out. For some distance after the 200 Metres, SHENANEGAN raced in restricted room to the inside of CHINA CAT. WINNING SMILE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of WINNING SMILE after the race did not show any significant findings. HIGHLAND DAWN, SOUNDS BETTER and THE WORLD OF LOVE were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 10 Mar. 2003) :
Veterinary Surgeon, Dr C P H Osborne, has reported that when he examined SUN HEI GLORY at the stables of Trainer B K Ng this morning, he noted the horse had a corneal ulcer on the left eye.
