Racing Incident Report
OWNERS' JOY was withdrawn on 10.3.03 on veterinary grounds (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter CZAR OF PRUSSIA. Before being allowed to race again, OWNERS' JOY will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. INDUSTRIAL PRIDE and CHARIOT OF WEI HAI were slow to begin. CORAJOSO bounded in the air at the start and shortly afterwards was crowded for room between ABLE MARSHALL and CZAR OF PRUSSIA which shifted out. CHOICE AND CHANCE began awkwardly and became unbalanced. It took some time for CHOICE AND CHANCE to regain its balance and as a consequence it lost a significant amount of ground. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, INDUSTRIAL PRIDE and CHOICE AND CHANCE bumped when tight inside the heels of CORAJOSO. Just after passing the winning post on the first occasion, SENSIBLE WAY was steadied when crowded for room by CHARIOT OF WEI HAI which had improved inside the heels of WINNING BOY. In the early stages, CORAJOSO proved difficult to settle, at the 1300 Metres and again at the 1200 Metres got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of FORTUNE LIFE. At the 1000 Metres, CORAJOSO shifted out and was steadied away from the heels of INDUSTRIAL PRIDE. Over the final 200 Metres, FORTUNE LIFE hung out under pressure and at the 150 Metres shifted ground, causing some inconvenience to ABLE MARSHALL. A Marcus (SOLAR EMPIRE) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse with cover, somewhere about 4th position if possible. He said as it had done at its previous start, SOLAR EMPIRE proved very difficult for him to settle and in order for him to find cover, he had to go further back than he wished. He said in the middle stages SOLAR EMPIRE continued to over-race and as a result of him sitting against the horse, his saddle shifted forward over the horse's wither, this placed him at a significant disadvantage. He said shortly after straightening his saddle corrected itself and he rode his mount out only hands and heels as he was of the opinion the manner in which the horse had raced in the early and middle stages meant it would not finish the race off. The Stewards advised A Marcus that they accepted his saddle had shifted forward in the middle stages, however, after having corrected itself in the Straight, he would in future be expected to ride his mount out with more vigour than he had used on this occasion. SOLAR EMPIRE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, SOLAR EMPIRE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No significant findings were made. FORTUNE LIFE, DASHING CHAMPION and WINNING BOY were sent for sampling.
