Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, HANDBAG DRAGON put its head down and refused to jump. E Saint-Martin, its rider, was dislodged. Before being permitted to race again, HANDBAG DRAGON will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. CHOICE AND CHANCE was slow to begin. On jumping, WELL BEST and PARADIS bumped. SUPREME STAR got its head up at the start. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, NOBLE BOY and SUPREME STAR were steadied when crowded for room by AMO which momentarily shifted in. No action was taken. At the 500 Metres, CHOICE AND CHANCE was crowded by SUPREME STAR which was laying in away from FRENCH CONNECTION. At the 100 Metres, EXCITING TIMES was momentarily steadied away from the heels of AMO which shifted in slightly. Over the concluding stages, CHOICE AND CHANCE was crowded for room by SUPREME STAR (Apprentice P H Lo) which shifted in when hit with the whip. Apprentice P H Lo immediately stopped riding in an endeavour to keep his mount straight. Because of this, neither SUPREME STAR nor CHOICE AND CHANCE were ridden out to the line. Throughout the race, PARADIS was obliged to race wide and without cover. C Williams (WELL BEST) said he had the horse travelling a little keenly into the first turn and because of this it hung out and covered a lot of additional ground. He said WELL BEST continued to race harder than he would have liked and made the Home Turn awkwardly, then shortly afterwards commenced to give ground and he became concerned with its action. Before being allowed to race again, WELL BEST will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. HONOUR SUPREME and AMO were sent for sampling.
