Racing Incident Report

After being boxed, TORI TOP became fractious, reared and momentarily had its right fore leg caught over a partition. The horse was removed from the gates, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon, trotted up and after the necessary consultations was considered suitable to race. Before being allowed to race again, TORI TOP will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. On jumping, CAVIAR ONE shifted out abruptly towards the outside rail, was then reluctant to stride out for some distance and near the 300 Metres broke down. BULLSHOT was slow to begin and then was obliged to race wide and without cover throughout. TORI TOP was slow to begin and then shortly afterwards was bumped by LUCKY BIRD which shifted out. Near the 1500 Metres, NIGHT HUNTER II was steadied when crowded for room between TORI TOP which was taken out slightly by MARIPOSA and WINNING ASSOCIATES which was taken in slightly by TELECOM TWIN. LUCKY TIME, which was following and proving difficult to settle, got its head up and was checked away from the heels of NIGHT HUNTER II. No action was taken. Making the turn after the 800 Metres, NEW DYNASTY hung out, then in the Straight when being ridden out hung in. On straightening, TELECOM TWIN was momentarily steadied when awkwardly placed on the inside of BULLSHOT and outside the heels of LUCKY BIRD which shifted out slightly. R Fradd (NEW DYNASTY) said because of the horse's tendency to get its head up and hang out throughout its races, he was instructed if the horse began well, he should allow it to stride along wherever possible and to avoid applying pressure to its mouth. He said the horse today began fairly and in accordance with his instructions, he allowed it to stride along without at any time placing any pressure on its mouth and consequently ended up racing further forward than is normal. Y T Cheng (TORI TOP) explained he had ridden the horse in its track work last Friday morning and in his opinion this work was satisfactory. He said after being slow to begin, he had to ride TORI TOP along in an endeavour to obtain a forward position in order to carry out his instructions. He said at the 600 Metres he endeavoured to improve on TORI TOP, however, the horse did not respond to his riding and overall was most disappointing. He said in his opinion TORI TOP did not handle today's soft track conditions. TORI TOP was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, TORI TOP was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No abnormalities were detected. LUCKY BIRD, GREAT DRAGON and DANELAW were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted BULLSHOT was bleeding from a minor mouth wound.
