Racing Incident Report
PROFIT DAY, which was standing badly and leaning against the inside of its stall, began awkwardly and lost a considerable amount of ground. SHOGUN, which was to be ridden back today from the outside gate, was immediately steadied on jumping. From a wide gate, O REI was ridden along to go forward, was not able to cross runners to its inside and was obliged to race three wide outside the lead. Shortly after the start, SPIRITUAL KING was momentarily steadied away from the heels of WATCH KING after being taken in slightly by BURST TO VICTORY. At the 700 Metres, SHOGUN was steadied away from the heels of MARSHALL SPIRIT which lost ground after being crossed by O REI. Making the turn at the 700 Metres, PROFIT DAY hung out. After the 300 Metres, HAPPY WINNING, which was racing tight between SILLY BOY and O REI, turned its head to the left hand side and attempted to savage O REI. Then near the winning post, HAPPY WINNING again turned its head to the left hand side and attempted to savage SPIRITUAL KING. Mr B K Ng, trainer of HAPPY WINNING, was advised whilst it is usual for a horse which for the first occasion attempts to savage to have a warning recorded against it, in view of this horse attempting to savage twice in one race, it will be required to perform satisfactorily amongst runners in an official barrier trial before being allowed to race again. Mr Ng was also advised should the horse perform similarly in the future, further action may be taken against it. D Dunn (SPIRITUAL KING) pleaded guilty to a charge of having used his whip in an improper manner by striking HAPPY WINNING over the head after that horse had attempted to savage his mount. In assessing the appropriate penalty, the Stewards took into account the extenuating circumstances and it was decided that D Dunn be fined $5,000. In the Straight, GO GET THEM and LOVE ON EARTH hung in. Throughout the race, BURST TO VICTORY hung in and proved difficult to ride. SPIRITUAL KING, LOVE ON EARTH and SURE FORTUNE were sent for sampling.
