Racing Incident Report
After arriving at the Start, D Whyte (WINNING EMPEROR) expressed concern with the horse's action during its preliminary. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and after the necessary consultations was considered suitable to race. COSMO STAR began awkwardly and bumped the outside gate of its stall, causing H K Yim, its rider, to lose his left side stirrup. It took some time for H K Yim to regain the use of this stirrup and as a consequence COSMO STAR got well back. ON SHAN EXPRESS began awkwardly, bumped the outside gate of its stall and lost ground. On jumping, THE GREATEST was bumped by WEALTHY TREASURE which shifted in. SOUTH CHINA NINETY, which had drawn a wide barrier, was inclined to hang out and raced wide without cover throughout. After the 800 Metres, ON SHAN EXPRESS got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of WINNING EMPEROR. Near the 600 Metres, ON SHAN EXPRESS was steadied away from the heels of WINNING EMPEROR after being brushed by KID GALAXY. Near the 500 Metres, ACCLAMATION was awkwardly placed inside the heels of SOUTH CHINA NINETY. Near the 200 Metres, ON SHAN EXPRESS was disappointed for running between ACCLAMATION and GOOD CHANCE which shifted out away from WINNING EMPEROR which itself was shifting ground while hanging. After this, WINNING EMPEROR continued to hang out and proved difficult to ride. Over about the final 200 Metres, THE GREATEST was held up and unable to obtain clear running behind FANTASTIC HORSE and on the inside of KID GALAXY. Because of this, THE GREATEST was not properly tested. SIMPLE SIMPLE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of SIMPLE SIMPLE after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of SIMPLE SIMPLE, which tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, SIMPLE SIMPLE will be required to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. F Coetzee (FORTUNE BUILDER) said he had been riding the horse in some of its track work leading into today's race and in his opinion this work was satisfactory. He said the horse got back to race with the rear as was anticipated and in the early stages appeared very relaxed. He said when he asked FORTUNE BUILDER to improve coming off the Home Turn, the horse did not respond to his riding and whilst it did make some ground in the Straight, it was disappointing. F Coetzee was unable to offer any explanation for the performance of FORTUNE BUILDER. FORTUNE BUILDER, WEALTHY TREASURE and WINNING EMPEROR were sent for sampling. After the race, FORTUNE BUILDER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, FORTUNE BUILDER will be required to pass an official veterinary examination.
