Racing Incident Report
After arriving at the Start, the tongue tie on SHANGHAI KING was replaced. On jumping, SHANGHAI KING bounded in the air and lost ground. LUCKSWELL began awkwardly. From the outside gate, SURVEYOR was steadied and taken back across behind runners close to the rail but at the rear. In the early and middle stages, MAGICAL WARRIOR proved difficult to settle. Also in the early and middle stages, MULTIWINNING proved difficult to settle, on a number of occasions got its head up and throughout the race was obliged to race wide and without cover. At the 1400 Metres, OLYMPIC GOLD commenced to over-race and was checked away from the heels of LUCKSWELL. At the 700 Metres, PEAK POWER shifted to the outside of SHANGHAI KING to improve. This caused some inconvenience to GOOD FIT which was initially carried wider and then steadied and shifted in away from the heels of PEAK POWER. In the early part of the Straight, FLYING BISHOP was held up and unable to obtain clear running between TEMMOKU and OLYMPIC GOLD, after the 300 Meters was shifted out, continued to be unable to obtain clear running and was held up behind MULTIWINNING and OLYMPIC GOLD. Then after the 200 Metres, FLYING BISHOP was shifted back to the inside of OLYMPIC GOLD to obtain clear running. G Mossé (EQUATOR KID) said he had been asked to ride the horse more quietly than it was ridden last start because it had previously performed well when ridden in that manner. He said after beginning fairly today, EQUATOR KID did not relax for him throughout the race and when he endeavoured to improve on straightening, the horse failed to respond to his riding. He said he was obliged to remain racing towards the inside as he did not believe he had opportunities to shift out in the Straight because he was not clear of other runners. G Mossé said he had been riding EQUATOR KID in track work and in his opinion this work was good. He added the horse did not cause him any concern following the race. EQUATOR KID was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, EQUATOR KID was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No abnormalities were detected. OLYMPIC GOLD, CELEBRATION and LUCKSWELL were sent for sampling.
