Racing Incident Report

FANTASTIC WIN and FANTASTIC SHADOW were slow to begin. On jumping, SWAGGIE and ZERUBBABEL bumped. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, SWAGGIE and MEMBERS GLORY bumped on several occasions. At the 600 Metres, MIGHTY HUGO was momentarily crowded for room inside BUCK'S FIZZ which shifted in slightly to avoid the heels of EASY RECEIPT which was giving ground quickly. TWEET, which was following, was steadied in consequence. Shortly after the 600 Metres, FANTASTIC WIN was steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of EASY RECEIPT which continued to give ground. Just prior to the winning post, MASTER MARAUDER was steadied away from the heels of MIGHTY HUGO which shifted out abruptly. No action was taken. F Coetzee (ZERUBBABEL) said he had been instructed to lead on the horse, but if that was not possible to ride it just behind the lead. He said at its last start ZERUBBABEL began only fairly, took a little while to muster speed, then travelled comfortably into a forward position. He said tonight ZERUBBABEL began well, he immediately rode it along in an endeavour to carry out his instructions, however, the horse did not respond to his riding in the early stages and got much further back than was anticipated. He said he continued to ride ZERUBBABEL along until the 800 Metres, however, it continued to lose ground and in his opinion it was not handling tonight's wet track. He said in the Straight once balanced, ZERUBBABEL finished the race off nicely. F Coetzee attributed the poor performance of ZERUBBABEL tonight to the wet track. ZERUBBABEL was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, ZERUBBABEL was examined by the Veterinary officer. No significant findings were made. In the Straight, EASY RECEIPT, which had commenced to give ground from the 800 Metres, was eased down. EASY RECEIPT was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, EASY RECEIPT was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed the horse to have a probable displacement of the soft palate. He also said the horse was distressed and moving stiffly behind. Before being allowed to race again, EASY RECEIPT will be required to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. MEMBERS GLORY and TWEET were sent for sampling.
