Racing Incident Report

LEGEND'S GLORY, second Standby Declared Starter, was withdrawn on 5.9.03 on veterinary grounds (swollen right hind). Before being allowed to race again, LEGEND'S GLORY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Prior to the start being effected, TUMBLER became fractious and endeavoured to break out underneath the front gate of its stall. The horse was removed from the barrier, re-saddled and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said after the necessary consultations the horse was suitable to race. While TUMBLER was being examined, TOP DANCER became fractious, reared and momentarily sat down behind. Before being allowed to race again, TUMBLER will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. BIEN BIEN HEART was slow to begin. LUCKY LUCKY began awkwardly and lost ground. From the outside barrier, O' SHINY was immediately steadied and taken back behind runners to a position on the rail but at the rear. From an outside barrier, TOP DANCER raced wide and without cover throughout. At the 1000 Metres, LUCKY LUCKY was inconvenienced and steadied away from the heels of RECOGNITION which when racing tight inside ASIA STAR shifted in and became awkwardly placed close to the heels of ON SHAN EXPRESS. No action was taken. After the 800 Metres, RECOGNITION was bumped by ASIA STAR (W Woods). Some inconvenience was caused to WORK HARD. W Woods was advised in similar circumstances he would be expected to do more to protect his fellow riders. After the 200 Metres, RECOGNITION, which had been for some distance endeavouring to improve between KING HORSE and GANBATTE, was steadied when disappointed for running between those horses and shifted out. Also after the 200 Metres, O' SHINY was momentarily steadied when crowded for room inside TUMBLER which was giving ground. Over the concluding stages, GANBATTE was crowded for room between KING HORSE and HAPPY WINNING (D Whyte) which shifted in slightly. D Whyte was advised to exercise more care. Prior to the weighed-in signal being semaphored, A Delpech, the rider of GANBATTE, and Mr A T Millard, the trainer of the horse, viewed the official Stewards' footage to consider if they had sufficient grounds to lodge a protest/objection against HAPPY WINNING being declared the winner. After viewing these films, A Delpech and Mr Millard decided against lodging a protest/objection. ASIA STAR was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, ASIA STAR was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No significant findings were made. HAPPY WINNING, ON SHAN EXPRESS and PLEASANT SUCCESS were sent for sampling.
