Racing Incident Report
PACIFIC ALLIANCE was slow to begin. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, THUNDER MAN was steadied away from the heels of ABLE MARSHALL which shifted in when only just clear. In the early stages, GREEN CENTURY proved difficult to settle. Throughout the race, REWARD raced in a forward position but wide without cover. Making the Home Turn, THUNDER MAN brushed the running rail and became unbalanced. S Dye (THUNDER MAN) said he had been instructed to ride the horse in a rearward position and it was felt the horse would be best suited if ridden for inside runs in the Straight. He said passing the 600 Metres he was unable to improve his position when following PACIFIC ALLIANCE and racing towards the inside of ABLE MARSHALL. He said in the Straight he rode his mount along vigorously hands and heels and it made ground, however, after the 200 Metres he was unable to obtain clear running behind REWARD and COMMANDER CHARLIE which were giving ground. He therefore shifted his mount out and continued to ride it out hands and heels to the line. S Dye said THUNDER MAN was not suited by the tempo of tonight's race. GREEN CENTURY was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, GREEN CENTURY was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No significant findings were made. SPLENDID PATROL and THUNDER STORM were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 18 September 2003)
After the race, GREEN CENTURY, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. GREEN CENTURY was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer S Woods this morning and at this time was found to be lame both hind legs and left front leg.
Before racing again, GREEN CENTURY will be required to pass an official veterinary examination.
