Racing Incident Report
FOUR ACES was withdrawn on 16.10.03 on veterinary grounds (blood in the trachea on scoping after track work) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter HAPPY YEARS. Before being allowed to race again, FOUR ACES will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. TOY QUEST was slow to begin. When the gates opened, CORAJOSO bounded in the air and lost ground. In the early stages, when being restrained to shift behind runners, KIMBERLEY MINES got its head up. At the 800 Metres, CORAJOSO was momentarily steadied when tightened for room between GLORIOUS LIGHT and STRONG GALLOP. At the 200 Metres, CORAJOSO was steadied and shifted in to avoid the heels of HAPPY YEARS which was giving ground. After the 100 Metres, ABORIGINAL was brushed by KIMBERLEY MINES which shifted out. In the early part of the Straight, ALL THE BEST was held up and to obtain clear running after the 400 Metres was shifted to the outside of MASTER YING. In the Straight, STRONG GALLOP was inclined to lay in. When questioned regarding his riding in the Straight, H K Yim (KIMBERLEY MINES) said he had been instructed to try and find runs through the field as coming to the outside would mean him covering too much additional ground. He said in accordance with these instructions he followed FORTUNE BOY around the Home Turn and into the Straight, then after straightening shifted to the outside of that horse, commenced to ride KIMBERLEY MINES along, but immediately lost the use of his right stirrup for a short distance which placed him at a disadvantage. He said after regaining his stirrup, he then shifted KIMBERLEY MINES to the outside of CORAJOSO to continue going forward and had some difficulty getting clear running until shifting to the outside of ALL THE BEST near the 100 Metres. He said KIMBERLEY MINES then closed the race off strongly. H K Yim was told his riding in the early part of the Straight had come under notice and he should ensure he rides in a manner which leaves no room for query. STRONG GALLOP was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, STRONG GALLOP, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of mucus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, STRONG GALLOP will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. DILIGENT and MASTER YING were sent for sampling.
