Racing Incident Report
Shortly after the start, OLYMPIC EXPRESS was steadied when crowded for room between GRAND DELIGHT which was taken in slightly by FIREBOLT and FLASHING STAR which shifted out away from CHEERFUL FORTUNE. Throughout the race, CHEERFUL FORTUNE hung out. F Coetzee (SILENT WITNESS) was fined $2,000 for making a celebratory gesture prior to the winning post. S Dye (GRAND DELIGHT) said the way the race was run obliged him to ride the horse without cover and because of this GRAND DELIGHT was more forward than he would have liked. He said when put under pressure near the 400 Metres the horse did not appear fluent in its action and did not quicken as he would have hoped. He said over the concluding stages GRAND DELIGHT seemed to shorten up further in its action. GRAND DELIGHT was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, GRAND DELIGHT was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of mucus in the horse's trachea. Before being permitted to race again, GRAND DELIGHT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SILENT WITNESS and CHEERFUL FORTUNE were sent for sampling. After the race, R Fradd reported FLASHING STAR was not striding out freely. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 24 November 2003)
After the race, R Fradd reported FLASHING STAR was not striding out freely. The horse was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings. FLASHING STAR was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer P F Yiu yesterday. He said at this time he noted the horse to have a stiff action of both fore legs. Before being allowed to race again, FLASHING STAR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
