Racing Incident Report

GOOD WIN began awkwardly and got its head up. CONVERGENCE began awkwardly and then was shifted across behind runners to a position close to the rail but at the rear. DISTINCTION began awkwardly and bumped the outside gate of its stall, causing Apprentice C K Tong, its rider, to become unbalanced. Shortly after the start, SPRING FOUNTAIN was bumped by LASER GLORY which shifted out after making contact with MR PRESIDENT. Approaching the 800 Metres, SPOKESMAN, which was proving difficult to settle, was awkwardly placed inside the heels of BORN TO WIN. For the major part of the race, KING PALM was obliged to race wide and without cover and on straightening was carried wider by SPOKESMAN which shifted out. Near the 200 Metres, Y T Cheng (SPRING FOUNTAIN) had the whip knocked from his hand by the whip of K C Tsang (MR PRESIDENT). Y T Cheng was able to re-gather his whip before it fell. Also near the 200 Metres, BUMPER BUMPER hung in. Over about the final 150 Metres, GETMORE DANCER was unable to obtain clear running between GOOD WIN which was giving ground and MYSTIC SPIRITS. Because of this, GETMORE DANCER was not properly tested. Apprentice M W Leung (UNIVERSAL GLORY) said he had been instructed from a wide gate to try and have the horse with cover in about midfield. He said UNIVERSAL GLORY began well, he immediately steadied in the hope of being able to find cover, however, was unable to do so because of runners to his inside. He said UNIVERSAL GLORY then dropped the bit and lost further ground, he commenced to ride it along, however, the horse showed no response. SPOKESMAN was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. A veterinary examination of SPOKESMAN after the race did not show any significant findings. UNIVERSAL GLORY was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, UNIVERSAL GLORY was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed some mucus to be present in the horse's trachea which in his opinion was of marginal significance. BUMPER BUMPER and CHECK MATE were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported that DISTINCTION had bled from both nostrils.
