Racing Incident Report
FORTUNE DANCER was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, SMART CHIEF was unable to hold its position between EXPLOSIVE POWER and HAPPY CONTENDER. Near the 1300 Metres, FORTUNE DANCER and KONRAD THE GREAT became badly unbalanced after bumping as a result of both horses shifting ground. Shortly after this, FORTUNE DANCER was checked when awkwardly placed inside the heels of KONRAD THE GREAT which as a result of being unbalanced in the earlier incident shifted in close to the rail. At the 1000 Metres, BLACK KNIGHT, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up and shifted out away from the heels of HAPPY CONTENDER. Because of this, SEASONS KNACK was carried to a three wide position without cover. After this incident, SEASONS KNACK remained racing without cover. After the 600 Metres, SMART CHIEF was bumped by RESOURCEFUL PRINCE which shifted in momentarily. Just prior to straightening, SMART CHIEF, which was being hard ridden to hold its position, was checked when crowded for room inside KONRAD THE GREAT which shifted in away from RESOURCEFUL PRINCE after initially being carried in slightly by that horse which shifted back in slightly after shifting to a three wide position. In all the circumstances, the Stewards were unable to attribute blame to one rider, therefore no action was taken. After the 200 Metres, KONRAD THE GREAT shifted to the inside of HAPPY CONTENDER into clear running. G Mossé (FRENCH CONNECTION) explained near the 1600 Metres he endeavoured to steady his mount to get a trail behind FORTUNE SMILES which was shifting across to the fence in the lead. He said when he endeavoured to steady FRENCH CONNECTION, it immediately took hold of the bit, would not come back underneath him and for a considerable distance was awkwardly placed on the heels of FORTUNE SMILES. D Whyte (CLASSA VICTORY) was unable to offer any explanation for the horse's poor performance. He said in the middle stages RESOURCEFUL PRINCE had been racing forward of him, however, that horse did not improve its position and because of this the leaders were further ahead of him than he would have liked. He did point out however in the Straight with the manner in which the race had been run he would have expected CLASSA VICTORY to close off, but the horse failed to do so. CLASSA VICTORY was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. SMART CHIEF was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of CLASSA VICTORY and SMART CHIEF after the race did not show any significant findings. FORTUNE SMILES and FRENCH CONNECTION were sent for sampling.
