Racing Incident Report

On jumping, RAIDER got its head up and lost ground. Shortly after the start, PRECISION and RIVER DANCER were crowded for room between INDUSTRIAL SUCCESS which after beginning awkwardly shifted in and HELENE VITALITY which shifted out. From a gate towards the outside, RED PEPPER was immediately steadied and taken across behind runners closer to the rail. Making the first turn, RIVER DANCER was crowded for room between HELENE VITALITY and INDUSTRIAL SUCCESS which shifted in slightly. Shortly after this, EQUATOR KID was steadied when crowded for room between LIBERAL'S CHOICE which shifted in slightly and INDUSTRIAL SUCCESS which shifted out to relieve pressure to its inside. Near the 1600 Metres, BULL'S EYE was steadied when crowded for room inside SANGREAL which was racing tight inside RIVER DANCER. In the early stages, DR MORE proved difficult to settle. Near the 1400 Metres, CHEERS HONG KONG got its head up when being steadied while being crowded for room between RIVER DANCER and DR MORE which when proving difficult to settle shifted in. At the 600 Metres, RIVER DANCER endeavoured to shift to the outside of PRECISION, but was unable to do so when being held in by RAIDER. After this, RIVER DANCER was awkwardly placed close to the heels of PRECISION. For the major part of the Straight, KIDDY SING had difficulty obtaining clear running behind DARWIN, after the 200 Metres was shifted to the outside of DARWIN, then near the winning post lay in when close to the heels of that horse and because of this was not ridden out to the end of the race. At the 100 Metres, HELENE VITALITY was steadied away from the heels of RIVER DANCER and for the remainder of the race was awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse. When questioned regarding the improved performance of RED PEPPER, Trainer C H Yip explained the horse was dropping down in grade today. He pointed out at its last start RED PEPPER had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the Home Straight and was only beaten 4 lengths. He said RED PEPPER had previously won over 2000 Metres, the distance of today's race and in his opinion the horse was also suited by the dropping back in distance from 2400 Metres of its last start. The explanation of Mr Yip was accepted. BULL'S EYE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of BULL'S EYE after the race did not show any significant findings. RAIDER, RED PEPPER and LIBERAL'S CHOICE were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 26 January 2004)
BULL'S EYE, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. BULL'S EYE was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer J Moore yesterday morning. He said at this time the horse was lame in the left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, BULL'S EYE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
